This distinctive and attractive rod antenna is ground plane independent, meaning it does not need to be connected to the ground-plane of a device to radiate efficiently. On the other hand, the unique cylindrically rod housing makes it better coordination with a device, thus avoiding a common problem to slim-line PCB antennas causing seriously detuned by connecting to a device.
